"Yeah, we learned all about it [romance] in this movie we watched last night. Dinner, music, candlelight, and all on a romantic cruise over the ocean blue. Lucky for you, we happen to have a ship right here." — Phineas[src] |
The Boat of Romance is a cruise ship utilized by Phineas and Ferb in an endeavor to assist Baljeet in pleasing his childhood girl friend.
History[]
Phineas and Ferb are contemplating their newly-built ship, when Baljeet comes looking for help. Greeting him, they wonder about the visit of his friend Mishti, who he claims has changed from her past self. Giving a brief explanation of his background with her, he proceeds to detail the moment of her arrival at the Tjinder's, wherein he had a panic attack upon gazing at a flirtatious girl, leading to an impromptu escape from home. To quash his worries, the boys decide to set the pair up on a cruise date.
Baljeet returns to his house, prepared to speak to Mishti. Elucidating his mother on his sudden disappearance, he subsequently gets to converse with the girl, to whom he reads the plans off of a brochure in hopes of her accepting the invitation. His awkward composure causes him to miss her immediate response, to his daze. Later, the two board the boat, with Baljeet attempting to act courteously in front of her. Meanwhile, Phineas offers Isabella to join the ride, which she misunderstands as a romantic hangout.
An overview of the boat's participants is shown, as it sails off. In the meantime, a spying Candace tries to alert Linda, but is blocked by a flock of seagulls. While touring Isabella around, Phineas instructs the starring couple's accommodation in a dinner table, cueing complementary elements for the scene. Baljeet seeks to please a bored Mishti, until the hull is abruptly perforated. Preventing sinking casualties, Ferb activates the emergency slide for a fun escape, after which the Indian duo reconciles ("That Sinking Feeling").
Design[]
The Boat of Romance is a cruise ship with a gray triangular-patterned keel, dark gray hull border, a white hull containing fifty-two lower portholes, fifty upper portholes, and a black anchor symbol; a gray rail outline, gray rails, a white room compartment with several windows, six light gray doors, gray stairs, and gray view rails; a mast with a red flag, and three red and black funnels. Entry is carried on a light gray-wheeled gray ramp with black handrails sustaining a red cover.
Within the deck, there are red corridor benches, white reclined chairs, yellow and white parasols, a beige lemonade table. Interior-wise, it comprises a bridge station consisting of a beige wheel, a red-blue-beige control panel, a beige radar monitor, and two gray loudspeakers; along with a brown dinner room encompassing a table having a light yellow cloth, two light yellow seats, a three-armed candelabra, a yellow chandelier, four gold pillars, eight paintings, and other maritime decorations.
Activities[]
Crew members for the Boat of Romance are captain Phineas, beverage consultant and on-board assistant Ferb, director Isabella, and an orchestral band. Conforming to their roles, Phineas dons a navy commander attire, while Ferb wears a waiter uniform. The march, composed by a dark-skinned black-haired male violinist, a short fair-skinned brown-haired male violinist-cymbalist, a light-skinned ginger female violinist-trumpeter, a tan-skinned gray-haired flautist-violinist, and a light-skinned white-haired saxophonist, are clothed in blue jackets and dress.
The service provided by the cruise is a voyage across the pier during the afternoon, accompanied by a romantic dinner option for two. In addition to Baljeet and Mishti, the boat is open to the public through reservations seemingly ordered in advance, which are listed on a notepad. For the evening meal, meatball spaghetti and lemonade are served, coupled with love music, a shower of rose petals, and an in-house cupid. In case of emergency, the Fun Preserver slide can be accessed via the stern, allowing a cool descent into the shore.
Background Information[]
- On a first inspection of the boat, Phineas remarks that "she's yar", to which Ferb comments on it being shipshape in Bristol fashion. Neither knows what the other actually means by their statements.
- Initially, Phineas wonders if Mishti had somehow turned into a werewolf, insisting on this idea even after understanding the backstory.
- Responding to Baljeet's question about the tastes of girls, Phineas states that they are "sugar, spice, and everything nice", which the former corrects to being the constitution of females. This is a reference to the nursery rhyme "What Are Little Boys Made Of?", popularized by The Powerpuff Girls.
- Based on Phineas' dialogue, it can be inferred that the original plan for the ship involved a giant bottle, likely to form an enormous version of an impossible container.
- The primary inspiration for the romantic cruise is the film Titanic, which the boys had watched the night before. This is highlighted in the introductory theme, in which Mishti replicates the iconic "King of the World" scene, and the sinking fate, inadvertently promoted by the boys as the grand finale of the night.
- The promotional brochure pertaining to Baljeet describes the event as an "all-inclusive luxury cruise around Danville Harbor, including a romantic candlelit dinner".
- Candace gets the idea to spy on her siblings in the harbor by her parents, who jokingly pretend to mishear her call about the kids' creation.
- The theme for the Boat of Romance is derived from the television series The Love Boat, with the title sequence mimicking that of the 1970s show.
- Isabella becomes dumbfounded by the realization of who the special couple actually is, so much so that she responds to Phineas' dinner showcase in a deadpan manner.
- Kicking off the date, the band plays the overture to the Mozart opera The Marriage of Figaro.
- During the cues, Phineas orders to "cue...'pid" for the cupid's appearance, a play on the words "cue" and "cupid".
- At the height of the evening, Buford crashes the dinner table, and Baljeet runs out of conversation topics, leaving Mishti uninterested. The pair ends up in good terms by playing in the water like in the old times.
- In the end, Candace asks her brothers to put on a romantic space in the backyard for her and Jeremy, who instead suggests a regular Slushy Burger snack.
- The Boat of Romance is seen in the montage of clips used by Buford in his video dedicated to Phineas ("Phineas' Birthday Clip-O-Rama!").
- The Boat of Romance appears in Isabella's returning memories of Phineas ("Last Day of Summer").
