Phineas and Ferb Wiki

Candace, looks to me like you're going about this the wrong way. Don't focus on the boys, focus on the invention. If you can find out where the stuff goes, maybe you can take your mom there, and she'll finally see the evidence.

— Stacy Hirano

Thanks to Stacy's advice, Candace tries to figure out how Phineas and Ferb's crazy creations disappear every time before Linda sees it. Dr. Doofenshmirtz creates an Invisible Ray to make the Fireside Girls invisible when they come knocking to sell him cupcakes.

Episode Summary[]

Planning the day's project

Phineas and Ferb in their backyard.

The day begins with Candace scheming to bust Phineas and Ferb, but Stacy says that she is focusing too much on the boys, and that if she took her mom to the place where the invention goes, she could bring her mom there therefore busting them more easily. They ask Phineas and Ferb to build a "big and obvious" invention, so that they can watch it.

Perry's casino entrance

Perry's lair entrance.

Agent P then appears behind Candace and Stacy while they're watching the invention, and sneaks over to a lair entrance which then pops out of the ground in the form of a box-elevator with many Casino style lights, decorations and sounds, but luckily the girls were watching the ride so intently that they do not see or hear the box, and Perry is able to get to his lair unnoticed. Major Monogram then tells Perry that he made the entrance that way so as to help get him in the mood for his upcoming trip to Las Vegas. He then says that Dr. Doofenshmirtz is making an invisibility ray, and sends Perry to stop him.

Meanwhile Phineas and Ferb invite Isabella, Buford, and Baljeet to help watch the ride with them. Perry then arrives at Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, enters the building, and gets trapped in an invisible cage containing an invisible tin cup to occupy Perry while trapped in it.

Behold, my Invis-inator

"Behold, the Invisinator!"

Doofenshmirtz then shows him the Invisinator, a ray that could cause objects to become invisible, which he plans to use on the Fireside Girls when they come to sell him cupcakes or raffle tickets. He tells Perry that he was annoyed that when he left his shades up, they could see that he was home, so he couldn't just ignore them and pretend he wasn't home, and they would make big pleading eyes that make him feel guilty, so, rather than shooting himself with the ray so they don't see him, he decides to shoot the girls with it so that he won't have to look at them.

Perry begins to file at the bars of his cage with an invisible file, so Doofenshmirtz is driven to release his invisible tiger, but instead of attacking Perry, it attacks Doofenshmirtz. He manages to drive the tiger back through the trapdoor, and closes the door. But Perry, it seemed, had already escaped. Perry, swinging on a rope, kicks Doofenshmirtz. Doofenshmirtz rolls through the invisibility ray, leaving him completely invisible. Doofenshmirtz thinks Perry will be unable to find him, and doesn't refrain from telling Perry so. This, however, allows Perry to locate him, and Perry gives him a series of kicks and punches, making him to roll back through the invisibility ray, causing him to become visible again. Doofenshmirtz remarks that he didn't know that it could do so. Perry then throws a chair through the ray, at Doofenshmirtz.

Meanwhile, Candace realizes that the rides usually only disappear after the kids are done playing with it. She then tells the kids to go play on it. They do, and have fun doing so.

Perry winces

Perry winces while Dr. Doofenshmirtz gets attacked by the invisible tiger.

At Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, the fight continues. Doofenshmirtz punches Perry, making him go flying part-way into the ray of invisibility. Perry's head becomes invisible. Perry then gives Doofenshmirtz a series of punches, causing Doofenshmirtz to fall over backwards. He gets up and runs at Perry. Perry grabs his arms and flips him over onto his back, causing his legs to go into the ray. Perry jumps at him, causing them both to go through the ray again, making the parts of them that was invisible to become visible. Perry starts running away from Doofenshmirtz. Doofenshmirtz jumps over Perry, stopping Perry. Doofenshmirtz picks Perry up, and throws him through the ray. Perry aims the ray at Doofenshmirtz's top, causing him to be completely visible again. Perry then proceeds to make himself visible again, sticking his head in the ray.

Back at Phineas and Ferb's house, the kids get off the ride. At that moment, Perry jumps off the ray, causing it to aim down at the ride. Linda gets home, and everybody looks around toward the driveway. The ride becomes invisible, just as they turn back towards the ride. Candace asks Phineas what he did, and he answers he doesn't think he did anything. Candace realizes it must be because her mom comes home that the inventions disappear. She asks her mom to back down the driveway. As soon as the car is moved, the ride becomes visible again. Candace asks her mom to come back up the driveway, and the ride disappears again.

She starts moving back and forth. The ride disappearing and reappearing in correspondence to her movements. Her mom decides to park in front of the house instead. Candace thinks she'll be able to see it from the front, but as soon as her mom looks, it disappears. Phineas discovers that the ride is just invisible. Candace goes to feel it. She then decides to use paint to make its shape visible. She goes to get the paint.

Meanwhile, Perry and Doofenshmirtz are still dueling. He tells Perry that with only the push of a button, he can turn the invisibility ray into a disintegrator. He does so, and the ray shoots at the ride in the backyard, duly destroying all evidence of its existence. Perry then proceeds to aim it at the control panel of the ray, instantly disintegrating it.

Back at the house, Candace is running towards the ride, planning to throw the paint all over it. But, since it isn't there, the paint just lands on the ground. Linda announces that all the kids and Candace, once she cleans up the paint, are welcome to come in for some cookies. Ferb tells Candace that the Quantum Theory states that the mere observation of an experiment changes its outcome, and the day ends.

The "Too Young" Line[]

None.

Ferb's Lines[]

Ferb: Well, we were all watching it, and Quantum Theory states that the mere observation of an experiment changes its outcome.
Candace: Now you tell me.

What'cha doin'?[]

Isabella: Hey, Phineas. What'cha doin'?
Phineas: We're just building a big and obvious ride in our backyard.
Isabella: Cool! Can I ride it?
Candace: Nobody is riding on anything, we're just gonna watch it.
Phineas: Candace wants to see where it goes.
Isabella: Okay...

Hey, where's Perry?[]

Phineas: Hey, where's Perry?

Oh, there you are, Perry[]

None.

Perry's entrance to his lair[]

A box comes out of the ground looking like a Casino entrance.

Memorable Quotes[]

Stacy: "Boys are human beings, too. If you're interested in one of them, make him feel comfortable by asking him questions about himself." Okay, they lost me at the whole boys/human beings thing.
Candace growls as she looks out the window
Stacy: Candace, this article specifically states not to growl psychotically. It makes boys feel uncomfortable.
Candace: Stacy, you're a genius!
Stacy: Wow, go figure! Would you call my mom and tell her that?
Buford: How's my schedule?
Baljeet: Well, right now you are just carrying me like luggage.
Buford: We're in.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: And why would I need an invisibility ray you ask? Well, you know when those cute little Fireside Girls come by to sell their... their cupcakes or their... their raffle tickets or whatever, and you forgot to close your shades so they come to the front door and they can see you! They can see you right in there watching TV or whatever, and you can't pretend that you're not home because they can see you, and they have those big pleading eyes making you feel guilty, so I'm just going to shoot them with the ray so I don't have to look at them.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: You forced my hand! I have no choice but to open the trap door and release the invisible tiger! (Silence) Are you feeling any biting or scratching in there because- Ah! Ah, ow! Back, back, back! Oh! Back, you tiger! Ow! Where are you, so I can stop you with- Get back, get in there. Get back!
Doofenshmirtz: Now, Perry the Platypus, you can never be sure where the final strike will come from. (Perry turns around) Ah, I'm an imperceptible enigma. I move in silence-- (Perry kicks him) Ow! Oh you followed the sound of my voice, maybe I should stop talk-- (Perry punches and kicks him) Ow, ow, ow! Quit it! (He knocks down a chair and rolls into the Invis-Inator's ray, causing him to become visible again) Interesting! If you're already invisible, it turns you visible again-- (Perry throws the chair at him) Ow! Oh well that came out of nowhere.
Buford: Eh, my schedule's flexible.
Baljeet: I used to be.
Candace: There must be some kind of sensor in the driveway. But where is it? It's gotta be here somewhere.
Kids: It's back!
During this, Candace moves herself back and forth and Invisinator hits the Big Obvious Ride
Kids: It's gone!
Kids: It's back!
Kids: It's gone!
Kids: Back!
Kids: Gone!
Kids: Back!
Kids: Gone!

Background Information[]

  • The ticking sound of Watchin' and Waitin' is actually first heard from the scene of "Unfair Science Fair Redux (Another Story)" with the man, whose job is to watch over what is happening on Mars through the Mars Rovers, who was just sitting while waiting for something to show up.
  • This episode reveals that Phineas is ambidextrous. When playing Watchin' and Waitin', Phineas switches between playing right-handed and left-handed.

Production Information[]

  • Premiered on Disney XD on April 4, 2009 and on Disney Channel US on May 29, 2009.

International Premieres[]

  • April 14, 2009 (Disney Channel Brazil)
  • June 28, 2009 (Disney Channel Spain)
  • July 29, 2009 (Disney Channel Latin America)

Errors[]

  • If you look behind Candace when she is talking with Stacy in her room, you can see that she has her own bust schedule, but she says to Stacy "That's because they build something EVERY DAY", if the boys build something every day, she clearly doesn't need a schedule because she knows they'll build something tomorrow.
  • Near the end, Buford says "Buford loves cookies". After he goes off-screen, you can see Baljeet and some of the Fireside Girls are mouthing it.
  • Phineas says that he doesn't know what happens to their inventions; however, they have deliberately cleaned up their inventions in "Lawn Gnome Beach Party of Terror", "Jerk De Soleil" and "It's a Mud, Mud, Mud, Mud World".
  • While Perry and Doofenshmirtz are battling at Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, the invisible ray is constantly on and should be leaving continuous swaths of invisible areas, but it doesn't.
  • Perry enters Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc. building from the balcony, but eventually, he enters Doofenshmirtz's room from the front door.
  • In some scenes, Phineas has eyebrows; in the others, he doesn't.
  • The sign said at first "Big and Obvious Construction Site" but later it says "Coming soon, Big Obvious Ride". However, they may have changed it as the ride neared completion.
  • When Candace is running with the paint, some spills out onto the ground, but when you see where she ran, there was no paint.
  • A short time before Watchin' and Waitin':
    • The inside of Candace's skirt is red, while her right sock and her left shoe are transparent.
    • Before the song, Candace and Stacy are in chairs. As she scolds Ginger, Phineas, Ferb and Isabella are in chairs, Milly, Ginger, Gretchen, Holly, Buford, and Baljeet are sitting down, and Adyson is standing up next to Isabella, while Katie is not there.
    • Phineas's eyes are larger than usual.
    • When the camera pans over to the gang as they begin to watch the ride, the space between Ginger and Adyson's legs are white and Ginger's skirt is red. Also, only Candace and Stacy are in chairs, Buford and Baljeet are on their right standing up, Phineas and Ferb are on their left standing up, and the Fireside Girls are in a line standing up, while Isabella is not there.
Katie and Adyson on trumpets

Adyson's hairband is brown.

  • During the Watchin' and Waitin' song:
    • Throughout the most of the song, Adyson's hairband is the same color as her hair. Also, she is unnoticeable in several shots.
    • Katie, Milly, and Phineas are missing in the group shot.
    • Dancing Fireside GIírls

      Six Holly clones.

All six Fireside Girls (excluding Isabella) look like Holly when they are dancing next to each other. Their heads aren’t visible, but all six of them have Holly’s skin color, shirts, patches, shoes, and no long hair behind the back. It’s possible that they made six Holly clones on purpose, but it does look a bit strange.
    • At first, Phineas and Ferb are playing acoustic guitars; in the middle of the song, they're playing electric guitars, and at the song's end, they change back to the acoustic guitars.
    • At one point of the song, Candace's eyebrows are missing.
    • In the song, even though they weren't allowed to blink, everyone except Gretchen and Milly closes their eyes at least once. Candace blinks twice when Phineas plays near her and Stacy and when trying to peek out from behind Phineas and Ferb as they play before her, though this might be some sort of fantasy point.
  • The Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated sign has a different font than before at one time.
  • The number of chairs changes repeatedly throughout the episode. At first, there were two chairs (for Candace and Stacy), then it increased to five (plus Phineas, Ferb, and Isabella). When the gang have finished the ride, there are only four chairs. When the Big Obvious Ride gets disintegrated, there are three chairs in front of it and two on the right, when there should be five all together in a line.
  • When the gang walks inside to have cookies, Stacy isn't seen walking with everyone.
  • In some scenes, the clouds are moving; in other scenes, they're not.
  • When Stacy invites Candace over to feel the invisible ride, Isabella isn't there. In addition, when Candace rushes to get inside the house to bring some paint, Milly, Baljeet, Katie, and Gretchen are not there anymore. Later on, when the ride gets disintegrated, Milly isn't there, and when Phineas says "Hi, Mom!", Milly and Baljeet are also not seen, while Ginger, Holly, Adyson, and Gretchen are lit like it's nighttime.
  • Candace pushes Linda's car down the driveway, which is impossible to do in real life.
  • After the kids rode on the ride, the Fireside Girls were apparently gone. They reappear when the kids notice that the ride is invisible.
  • Candace runs back to the backyard through the sliding door when Phineas notes the ride is invisible, but in the shot before that, she runs into the kitchen, past the sliding door.

Continuity[]

Allusions[]

  • Carly Simon - "Watching and Waiting" has a similar music style and opening to "You're So Vain", one of Simon's biggest hits.
  • Doctor Who - The name "Don't Even Blink" may be a reference to the Doctor Who episode "Blink" in which the Doctor says "Don't even blink!". Said episode also relies heavily on the concept of Quantumn Theory, and the concept that observing something changes the outcome.
  • The Buzz on Maggie - The music which plays when the Casino-themed box elevator appears, is identical to the tune which plays at the beginning of The Buzz on Maggie episode "Those Pesky Roaches".
  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show - When everyone is saying "It's back!/It's gone!" Candace appears to be doing the "Pelvic Thrust" from the song "Time Warp".
  • The Fireside Girls Cupcakes are a parody of the Girl Scout Cookies as both make people guilty (Of the Girls looking Cute and Innocent) and buy Cupcakes (Or Cookies).
  • Star Wars - Major Monogram's line "May luck be with you." parodies "May The Force Be With you.", the famous catchphrase of the movie.

Trivia[]

  • Phineas and Ferb's invention disappears, reappears, and disappears though it does it more times this episode. ("One Good Scare Ought to Do It!")
  • The image of Phineas and Ferb playing electric guitars with Candace peering behind them was used on a Phineas and Ferb lunchbox.
  • Doofenshmirtz uses the phrase "You forced my hand" for the second time. ("Flop Starz")
