Phineas and Ferb Magazine was a magazine serial inspired on Phineas and Ferb, created and printed by Disney Magazine Publishing. Geared towards children aged six to twelve,[1] its usual 52-page contents included character facts, exclusive comics, puzzles, activities, quizzes, removable posters, drawing tutorials, and occasional interviews, among other columns. It could be bought via retail outlets for $4.99 or received through an online subscription valued at $23.95 per year.[2]
Circulation of the periodical began with a special newsstand-only holiday issue in 2010. An inaugural edition was published on March 22, 2011,[3] kicking off an alternating bi-monthly publication schedule maintained throughout its production period, having a single hiccup near the end of 2013 because of a relocation. From 2014, Redan Publishing overtook the material's distribution duties,[4] sustaining a steady release until the closing installment around New Year's 2015, thereafter ceasing manufacture in view of the then series finale.
Local versions were developed for various countries, normally comprising adapted content and a bonus gift. Regions covered were East Europe by Egmont Group from September 2010 (Romania),[5] December 2010 (Poland/Russia),[6][7] March 2011 (Bulgaria),[8] June 2011 (Germany),[9] August 2011 (Scandinavia),[10] and March 2012 (Serbia);[11] Italy by Disney Italy from January 2011,[12] Brazil by Editora Online from March 2011,[13] Spain by Logista Publicaciones from April 2011,[14] Latin America by Editorial Vértice (S) and Mina Editores (N) from January 2012,[15][16] SE Asia by Disney SEA from May 2012,[17] and Portugal by Zero a Oito from July 2013.[18]
History[]
Plans for a magazine publication rooted on the show were first reported in a New York Times article regarding prospects of a multimedia franchise, posted on June 22, 2010.[19] Sneak peeks for content pertaining to the periodicals were displayed on two issues of Disney Presents released during Summer and Halloween in the UK, both styled after the series. A few months later, a unique preview edition of the print title was published exclusively on newsstands starting on November 30, 2010[20] to commemorate Christmas.
The official subscription webpage was disclosed alongside the premiere volume, announcing with it a delivery program in a bi-monthly basis from March 2011 onward. This launch was the opening step on an initiative by Disney Publishing to expand their business to the kids industry, succeeding the Toy Story 3 issue and followed by the Thor, Cars 2, and Captain America interest publications.[21] With the rollout momentum of the beginning editions, a second particular imprint was unveiled on July 12, 2011[22] to promote the upcoming movie.
Publishing continued smoothly during the following two years, preserving the oscillating standard without any interruptions and giving way to a third extra cover in celebration of Winter. However, a behind-the-scenes shift occurred in 2013, leading to the discarding of a print slated for October 29 amidst adjustments. Afterwards, Redan Publishing assumed distributive control of the magazine, handing it out under a reduced size up to the discontinuation on December 30, 2014,[23] mainly due to the show's impending original conclusion.
