Phineas and Ferb Wiki

It's like they were hit with a dull and boring ray.

— Buford Van Stomm

When Linda tells Candace she wants to spend the day with her, Candace spends the entire time with her in the backyard so that she can bust her brothers. Unfortunately, Phineas and Ferb are instead becoming unusually uninterested in doing something creative after getting zapped by Dr. Doofenshmirtz's Dull-and-Boring-inator earlier that day. Upon realizing this, Agent P partners up with Dr. Doofenshmirtz to fix the now-destroyed Dull-and-Boring-inator into a Dynamic-inator in order to fix Phineas and Ferb.

Episode Summary[]

Candace talks with Stacy on her cellphone about how she and Jeremy are going steady. Linda comes to her room after reading an article about mothers and daughters and decides to spend the whole day with Candace, who takes it as the perfect opportunity to show her mother what Phineas and Ferb are up to in the backyard. Isabella, Buford, and Baljeet arrive and find that Phineas and Ferb don't seem to be up to anything interesting. As Candace and Linda go to watch Phineas and Ferb, Candace starts to wonder what's wrong with them since they only use lint rollers and they decided to spend their day watching the grass grow. Buford comments that they are behaving as if they had been hit by a "Dull and Boring ray".

Surprised by this, Perry sneaks off to check the surveillance tapes of Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, with the help of Carl, which show him pushing Doofenshmirtz's "Dull-and-Boring-inator" over the balcony of the building earlier that day, unaware that it fired a laser towards the suburbs. Realizing that the Dull-and-Boring-inator must have hit Phineas and Ferb, Perry rushes off to fix the problem.

Perry returns to Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated to rebuild the Dull-and-Boring-inator. Dr. Doofenshmirtz, believing that Perry has had a change of heart, helps Perry turn it into a Dynamic-inator, thinking that it will be used on himself so that he will become extremely interesting, causing everyone else to become dull and boring by comparison.

Meanwhile, Isabella, Buford, Baljeet, and Candace try to inspire Phineas and Ferb to build something by showing them various blueprints to no avail. At the same time, Perry and Doofenshmirtz start building the Dynamic-inator.

After trying to inspire Phineas and Ferb, they build a tiny rocket. Linda sees the rocket, believing it is a castle. She then sarcastically busts Phineas and Ferb and goes into the house for snacks. Candace accidentally activates the rocket by stepping on it, and the kids carry Phineas and Ferb to pursue her as she blasts away in the sky. They chase her to a construction site, where she helplessly rotates in the air. Baljeet realizes that she only has a limited amount of time before the rocket fuel runs out, and that she will plummet to the ground.

Back at Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, Perry and Doofenshmirtz argue over where to point the newly finished Dynamic-inator; Perry planning to point it at Phineas and Ferb's backyard in the suburbs, and Doofenshmirtz planning to use it on himself. Perry punches Doofenshmirtz, and the Dynamic-inator is shot by accident towards Phineas and Ferb's house, but misses the boys.

Isabella, Buford, and Baljeet try to get Phineas and Ferb to snap out of it by encouraging them to get creative so they can help save Candace. Upon hearing the word "creative", the effects of the Dull-and-Boring-inator start to wear off, and Phineas begins to order the gang to build a super slide to get Candace down. It works, and Candace is brought down safely.

Everyone returns to the backyard, including Perry. Linda comes out of the house in a show girl dress, singing and dancing with streamers about snacks. Buford comments that she is behaving as if she had been hit by a "dynamic ray". Perry sneaks off again and goes back to Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated to rebuild the inator once more.

The "Too Young" Line/Ferb's Line[]

Phineas: (sighs) It's good to be back.
Ferb: Yes, yes it is.

What'cha doin'?[]

Isabella: Hi, guys! What'cha doin'?
Phineas: Watching grass grow.
Isabella: (Giggles) No really, what'cha doin'?
Phineas: Did you know that the secret of success for grass growth is establishing a regular fertilizer schedule? We can make you a copy.
Isabella: Um... I'm good.

Hey, where's Perry?/Oh, there you are, Perry[]

Phineas: Lint roller. (rolls it over Ferb) Platypus hair. Hmm, that reminds me. Where's Perry?
(Perry arrives)
Everyone but Ferb: Oh there you are, Perry!
Phineas: Nice work, gang!

Candace: No, not nice work. You humiliate me all day long by being boring, then you think you could make up for that by giving me a super fun ride on the world's greatest crazy slide? (pause) Okay, you get a pass for saving my life. Maybe there's a little time for mom and me to get our toes done.

(back home) Mom, mom!
Phineas: Oh, there you are, Perry.

Perry's entrance to his lair[]

None.

I know what we're gonna do today[]

Phineas: Hey, I know what we're gonna do today! (brief pause) We're gonna watch golf on television!
Buford: I still think we should get a ladder.
Phineas: (as the effects of the Dull-And-Boring-inator wear-off) No, that would be...boring. Wait a minute. I know what we should've done today!

Memorable Quotes[]

Candace: That's what going steady is, Stacy. Jeremy and I aren't really engaged, but we're totally engaged to be engaged to be engaged. And by the way, that's on a need-to-know basis. Why would Jeremy need to know?
Isabella: Guys, what would you rather do? Watch paint dry or lasso wild dolphins and ride em' across the high seas!?
Phineas: What color paint? Can it be beige? (Phineas talking in the background) Oh, but we do already have one paint color for today, a second might be a little, self indulging.
Isabella: (gasps) This can't be happening! Baljeet, you speak boring. See if you can do anything.
Baljeet: Oh, I speak boring! And getting your Whittling patch is so exciting!
Buford: Meow. Catfight!
Baljeet: So, nice weather we are having.
Phineas: You know, I was just telling to Ferb that the atmosphere pressure seems a bit low today which would suggest cloudy skies, yet is completely sunny. Although, it would be interesting to take an exact barometric reading.
Baljeet gets bored
Phineas: Did you know that while meteorologists used millibars to chart atmospheric pressure, a barometer has a second scale or ring which reads in hectopascals? Of course, it doesn't matter what measure you choose when your barometer doesn't have its sensory range factory set... (continues talking)
Spirals from in Baljeet's eyes and the background turns grey
Isabella: Oh no! Baljeet's in trouble. I've got to get him out of there. Isabella pulls Baljeet Baljeet, focus! Come back.
Baljeet: I have never gone so far into deep dull before. (hears Buford talking) Save... Buford.
Buford: ... and temperature is the perfect balmy 75°. (Isabella slaps him) Whoa! Thanks, Isabella.
Linda: (sarcastically) BOYS, you are so busted! FEEL THE BURN!
Phineas: I've always liked pointing.
Linda: Me too, sweetie!
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: Yes! The dynamic-inator is finished and I couldn't have done it without you, new partner. Now if you would be kind enough to point it at my face and blast me, I will be the most fascinating and charming person in the Tri-state area. And then we could go to a movie or something.
Perry shakes his head.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: What do you mean no? Hand me the remote.
Perry shakes his head.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: Oh, Perry the Platypus, look at us. We're fighting over the remote like an old married couple. Haha. Gets angry It's not cute.
Phineas: We love thinking. In fact, we were just thinking about how much we love the flavor of water and how come there's no water flavored ice cream.
Baljeet: Actually that would be...
Isabella and Buford: Baljeet!
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: You never meant to work with me did you, Perry the heart breaker!
(Perry leaves)
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: Yes, go. Go back to your Agency, with their-their uncool acronyms. Just remember, we once had something special!
Buford: It was like your mom was hit with a dynamic ray or something.
Perry backs away and quickly goes to Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated
Dr. Doofenshmirtz: Really?

Errors[]

  • When Isabella says "They're watching grass grow", Baljeet has no eyebrows.
Isabella Neck

Isabella's dress is pink all the way to the neck.

  • Isabella's pink dress is shown covering her white t-shirt up to her neck the second time Buford suggests getting a ladder.
  • During the line "Every day it's more prints", Isabella's right arm turns gray for three frames.
  • During the line "Nothing we can't fix prints", Buford, Isabella, Baljeet, and Candace drop their blueprints. however the prints are gone once they sing "Big prints, small prints".
  • At the scene where Isabella snaps out Baljeet and Buford from the "deep, dullness" trance, all three of them are in front of the tree. One frame later, however, Isabella, Baljeet, and Buford are nowhere to be seen, while Candace, Phineas, and Ferb are shown standing in front of the tree instead.
  • Before Carl reviews footage from Doofenshmirtz, Perry is behind the control panel. After the footage is seen, Perry is on the side of the panel.
  • Almost at the end of "Snacks", Linda sings, "How would you like some-", but her mouth isn't moving before she steps onto the podium.
Error - Candace's detached arms

Candace's detached arms.

  • At one point, when Candace is flying, her arms become detached from her body for a split second.
  • After Candace lands on the slide, the rocket is nowhere to be seen.
  • On Disney+, this episode and its sister episode were temporarily called "Supermollusk/The Necklace" respectively.
    • These are the names of two episodes of Boyster that got mixed up with two Phineas and Ferb episodes due to a mislabeling error.

Continuity[]

Allusions[]

  • Girl, Interrupted - The title parodies the 1993 book and 1999 drama film.
  • Apollo 13 Mission - When Candace says "Houston, we have a problem", it parodies the phrase said by Jack Swigert during the lunar mission. (Although, the actual quote was "Houston, we've had a problem.")
  • The Thing with Two Heads - Baljeet references the film when he says "Look, the Thing with Two Heads".
  • Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty - Dr. Doofenshmirtz is dressed as Uncle Sam and Perry is dressed as the Statue of Liberty during "Blueprints".

Trivia[]

  • This is the first time Buford and Baljeet sing in Season 3.
  • This is the second time a song is used in both subplots at the same time ("I Scream, You Scream").
  • This is the first episode where Carl appears without Major Monogram.
  • This is the third time Major Monogram is absent in an episode ("Isabella and the Temple of Sap", "Canderemy").
  • It is shown that Perry had already foiled Doofenshmirtz's scheme for the day before the episode starts.
  • This is the third time the Apollo 13 phrase is referenced in the series ("Out to Launch", "Moon Farm").
  • This is the second episode where Candace attempts to bust Phineas and Ferb by urging them to create something despite the boys not wanting to ("The Best Lazy Day Ever").
  • Baljeet mentions "How nice the weather is" ("That Sinking Feeling").
  • When Doofenshmirtz first reveals his Dull-and-Boring-inator in the video, he appears to have just finished a Broadway-style song. Most of Doofenshmirtz's songs tend towards extravagant showstoppers, as first seen in "My Goody Two-Shoes Brother".
  • This is the second time Phineas and Ferb have lost their creativity, though the first time was in a dream. This is also the second time Phineas shows he's back to normal by saying "I know what we're gonna do today!" ("Phineas and Ferb Get Busted!").
  • Doofenshmirtz is seen singing "Perry the Platypus" in his bathroom ("Misperceived Monotreme").
