Oh great, now I'm in the middle of nowhere, now I'll never be able to take over the Tri-State Area before... the play!

— Heinz Doofenshmirtz

When one of Dr. Doofenshmirtz's "-inators" zaps him and Agent P into the middle of nowhere, they must embark on a comical journey filled with twists and turns to return home.

Episode Summary[]

Phineas and the gang decide to make a quilt. At Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, Perry arrives and notices Doofenshmirtz finishing his newest inator. Perry realizes that there aren't any traps for him. Doofenshmirtz tells him that he has no time for the traps because he has a role in a L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N. play. He then introduces his Trip-to-the-Desert-inator, and turns it on. Perry kicks it, causing it to turn around and fire.

They are transported to a desert, with Doofenshmirtz suddenly realizing that he will miss the play in time. He pleads with Perry to bring him there with his jetpack. Perry and Doofenshmirtz use the jetpack to return to Danville, but Doofenshmirtz wants to go faster. He activates the turbo mode, which causes the jetpack to launch out of control and eject them. Perry indicates that Doofenshmirtz is responsible for what happened, forcing both of them to walk. Doofenshmirtz tells Perry he is upset that Rodney will replace him.

Perry continues walking since Doofenshmirtz's talking annoys him, much to Doofenshmirtz's dismay. They then reach a junkyard; Doofenshmirtz sees some parts that will help them get out from the desert, but Perry refuses to help since trespassing is forbidden. Doofenshmirtz accuses Perry of being the reason for his failures, and tries to prove it by going inside the junkyard without any help from Perry, who eventually lets Doofenshmirtz go through with his plan. Doofenshmirtz climbs up into the junkyard, but is electrocuted and hurt.

As they walk down the road, Doofenshmirtz decides to go alone and doesn't want to see Perry anymore, covering his eyes and wishing that Perry was gone. When he opens his eyes, Perry is nowhere in sight, so Heinz continues to walk down the road to find a bus station on his own. Later, Perry returns with a glass of water for him, only to find him gone.

Doofenshmirtz crawls in the road from exhaustion and sees a bus stop that goes to Danville. When the bus driver asks him where his ticket is, Doofenshmirtz tells him that he doesn't have any money. He admits that it is his fault that they are in the desert and that he is a failure, and then starts crying. Perry arrives and gives Doofenshmirtz two bus tickets to show that he appreciates him for what he did. They get on the bus, but the bus driver rejects Perry, since no animals are allowed. Doofenshmirtz leaves Perry at the bus station.

As Doofenshmirtz rides the bus, his conscience starts to get to him for leaving Perry behind after everything that had happened to them, and he stops the bus and finds the jetpack from earlier. Perry continues to walk down the road, getting exhausted, until he sees Doofenshmirtz with the jetpack; Doofenshmirtz picks Perry up, and they head back to Danville.

Meanwhile, the play is about to begin. Doofenshmirtz and Perry reach Danville, but Heinz doesn't think they'll make it. Perry straps him in and prepares to use the turbo mode. As they activate it, they quickly arrive and crash into the play, knocking Rodney and the actress off of the stage. Delighted that he has finally succeeded in beating Rodney in the role, Doofenshmirtz thanks Perry for helping him, but Perry indicates that Doofenshmirtz is the one who should be thanked for his success. In the backyard, Buford enjoys the quilt, much to the others' differing opinions.

Memorable Quotes[]

Phineas: Ferb, I know what we're gonna do today!
Buford: A quilt?! Really?! I know it's been a long summer, and you're runnin' outta ideas...
Isabella: You know, Buford, you don't have to play with us all the time.
Buford: No, no! It's fine! I don't wanna play alone! I'll... I'll turn into a cat kid!
Phineas: What's a "cat kid"?
Buford: It's a kid version of a cat lady.
(beat)
Buford: Quick! Somebody say, "Where's Perry"!
Baljeet: Where's Perry?
Buford: You're always there for me, man.
Doofenshmirtz: I guess it is summer and we're in the desert, but I feel like it's unseasonably warm out here. I feel warm. Do you feel warm? Why do we always see cow skulls in the desert? And why do you only see the skull? Did the body die somewhere else? It makes no sense. (Perry walk away) Oh, I'm sorry, am I talking too much for you? Fine. I'll be quiet. I can shut up. I don’t have to talk all the time. It's not like I have to fill the space.... If you want silence, I'll give you silence! You watch!... And it's gonna be deafening! Mark my words!

(Later, he is seen walking alongside Perry)

Why do they say "Mark my words?" I mean, they just mean listen to my words, why don't they just say "Listen to my words"?
Doofenshmirtz: (to the tune of "Perry the Platypus") Doofy Doofy Doofy

Doofy Doofy Doofy

Doofenshmirtz!
Rodney: Pizza- (screams)
(loud crash as Agent P's jetpack crashes in the theater, sending the woman and Rodney flying off the stage)
Doofenshmirtz: Pizza delivery!
(crowd claps and cheers as the curtain closes)

Allusions[]

  • Road to ... - The title parodies the long-running series of popular buddy comedies starring Bob Hope and Bing Crosby.
  • 127 Hours - Doofenshmirtz says that he got his titanium arm stuck in a boulder, which is similar to how Aron Ralston got his arm caught in a boulder and was forced to amputate it.
  • The Iceman Cometh - The name of the play that L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N. is performing, The Pizza Man Cometh, is a reference to the title of this play.
  • Gone with the Wind - In a scene of the play, one woman uses Scarlett O'Hara's phrase "As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again!".
  • The Odd Couple - After Perry walks away from him, Doofenshmirtz rambles about how he doesn't have to keep talking, like Felix does when Oscar gives him the silent treatment.
