"Remember how much fun it was to bounce around the world on a rubber ball? So, how awesome would it be to actually be a rubber ball?" — Phineas[src] |
The Rubberization Ray is a rubberizer conceived by Phineas and Ferb so that they and their friends can bounce similarly to rubber balls.
History[]
The boys are intercepted during their construction work by Isabella, who is aiming for a patch relating to her crush. Oblivious to her, Phineas provides a brief exposition of their project, though he is cut by the anxious girl, herself interrupted by a focused Ferb, and the arrival of Buford and Baljeet. With everyone gathered, the brothers present their plan of replicating a previous bouncing effect on their own persons to experience elastic amusement, using a specialized device.
Some time later, the kids ready the completed machine, successfully testing it out for zany results. They begin to bounce all over town, with Isabella taking a unique detour to meet her troop. Done with the counseling session, she returns to the regular path to catch up with the others. Unexpectedly, chaos strikes when the gang reaches the downtown center, where a horde of zombie pharmacists has taken over. Terrified, the group runs away from the infestation, stopping by a nearby wall.
While resting, Phineas deduces the transmission method of the infection, just before Baljeet is touched by a pharmacist. Fortunately, the latter turns out to be unharmed thanks to the skin insulation. The protection time limit forces the kids to hurriedly retreat into the house, soon finding out that their invention has been destroyed by the zombies. The bouncing off, they try to salvage the situation, but the loss of resources and Isabella cues them into action, turning their thinking to rubber armor ("Night of the Living Pharmacists").
Design[]
The Rubberization Ray is a machine with a gray triple trapeze base, a light gray post, a gray spherical center piece, an inclined gray antenna-tipped part, a white connector surrounded by two light gray rings; and a gray output channel with a yellow crystal-like object above. Conforming with the theme, its design has overarching tires, a mast basketball, and a receiver beach ball. It is interconnected through yellow and red wires in the body, as well as by black cables to the gray control panel featuring red-white levers, and a light blue monitor.
Mechanics[]
The Rubberization Ray is a polymeric infuser based on organic chemistry. Its usage temporarily modifies the composition of the targets' skin into an insulation material, granting them qualities of rubber, namely elasticity, which enables bouncing capabilities. This process can be continuously restarted for extra cycles, having no side effects.
Background Information[]
- Replying to Isabella, Phineas states that he and Ferb are building a polymer destabilizer for the binding catalyst.
- Upon entering the backyard, Buford does a wordplay involving shaking bacon, subsequently mentioning philosopher Francis Bacon, to Baljeet's complaint.
- According to Phineas, the inspiration for the plan is another adventure of theirs, in which they bounced around the world on a rubber ball ("Phineas and Ferb: Summer Belongs to You!").
- Reminiscing on the rubber ball escapade, Baljeet comments on it having been rather nauseating, an element thought of by Buford as the fun part.
- Excited to become stretchy, Buford comments on turning Perry into a "plat-a-ball", which the boys deny.
- Isabella says "hit me with your bounce shot" prior to being zapped, spoofing the idiom "hit me with your best shot".
- During their bouncing expedition, the kids pass over the Googolplex Mall, go above a "Take a Vacation!" billboard, enter the Danville Kangaroo Ranch, reach towards the clouds, and trace zigzags on a plethora of building windows.
- Exiting the Fireside Girls Annex, Isabella remarks that she literally has to bounce away. Phineas unknowingly repeats this joke when escaping from the pharmacist swarm.
- The logic behind the infection immunity is because of the resistance attribute of insulators, which inhibit the flow of electric currents. This is pointed out by Phineas, who then comprehends the electromagnetic nature of the contagion.
- Before the gang can rebuild the Rubberization Ray, the phone networks are turned off, a blackout occurs, and all apparel stop functioning.
