“ | Uh, that's okay Mom, I think I'll walk...or maybe I'll run. | ” |
— Candace Flynn |
Phineas and Ferb's newest invention is a pair of boots that make the wearer extraordinarily fast. Candace decides to wear them so that she can be in two places at once; at Jeremy's family picnic and at the library where she promised Mom she would read to the kids. Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz's building is put up for sale so he tries to convince a prospective buyer that it is not worth buying.
Episode Summary[]
Phineas, Ferb, and Candace are watching the Uncovery Channel talk about cheetahs and how they are the fastest creatures on land, which gives Phineas the idea of making fast shoes. Candace explains that she is going to the Johnson Family Picnic. Linda comes in and asks Candace if she's ready to go and read books at the library to the little kids while she restacks some cookbooks. Stacy then calls her, asking Candace where she is because they're about to go on stage, and Candace hangs up on her. Linda says they're leaving in 15 minutes, and Candace agrees to go.
In Perry's lair, Major Monogram briefs Perry about Doofenshmirtz missing a few mortgage payments. Monogram believes that Heinz must be funneling the extra cash into something evil. In the backyard, Phineas and Ferb study their own body mechanics so they can create a pair of super shoes. Candace notices Phineas running outside, and hears Phineas saying how one can almost be at two places at one time with the shoes. As Phineas and Ferb run off, Candace sees a third pair of super shoes and decides to put them on and run from event to event, unaware that the shoes she is wearing are unstable prototypes.
At Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, Perry bursts through the door during the middle of a bank-sponsored open house. Since Doofenshmirtz has missed a few payments, the bank has seized the property and is trying to sell it off. Doofenshmirtz tells Perry about his current financial crisis and how if he doesn't figure out something, he'll be living in a cardboard box. Perry then points to a picture of Charlene and hands him a cell phone, which Doofenshmirtz refuses. He doesn't want to call her because he bought gargoyles against Charlene's counsel. Doofenshmirtz decides that he'll make the place unsellable by spreading lies to the potential buyers.
Phineas and Ferb are testing the speed of their shoes by racing against a drag racer, in which Phineas wins by a wide margin. At the Flynn-Fletcher house, Candace is having a hard time controlling the shoes. She runs into the library and onto her chair where Linda tells a group of young children that Candace will read to them. She's about to read when a girl up front asks her about her neck. Candace gives the book to the little girl to read out loud while she runs off to the Johnson's picnic.
She arrives, and Jeremy introduces her to some of the family members, including his mom, dad, his sister, and Hildegard. Jeremy wants Candace to join the family games, but Candace tells him that she will refill a glass of lemonade for him and runs back to the library. She arrives before Linda comes over to check on her. Linda decides to watch Candace read to the little kids. After about a minute, the same girl needs to go to the bathroom. Candace tells Linda to take the girl to the bathroom as she darts off to Jeremy's picnic.
At Doofenshmirtz's place, there is one potential buyer who seems to be in love with the place. Perry demands to Doofenshmirtz to call Charlene, but Doofenshmirtz refuses. In a field by the picnic, Phineas and Ferb test their shoes out, concluding that they can run faster than the speed of sound.
Candace accidentally runs into the shrine of the missing Annabelle Johnson and ruins it. At the wheelbarrow race, Candace is in charge of pushing Jeremy, and she runs so fast that they both plow into the dirt, but they win the race. After Mrs. Johnson suggests that Candace go and clean up in the bathroom, Candace sprints back to the library as Linda is bringing back the little girl. She tells Candace that she'll leave the children in her hands because there's somewhere she has to be. Meanwhile, Phineas and Ferb continue to test the limits of their shoes, verifying that they cannot run faster than light.
At Doofenshmirtz's place, Doofenshmirtz tries to convince the interested couple to not buy it by saying the furniture is cardboard and the neighbors are crazy, but the couple still likes it, and they decide to buy the place once they see the gargoyles. Despite Perry's insistence, Doofenshmirtz still refuses to call Charlene. Candace is sprinting all over the place, up and down the sides of buildings. She runs through Doofenshmirtz's place, picking up the wife of the couple.
At the picnic, the Johnsons are ready to hand out the trophies, but first they have a moment of silence for Hildegard's 85th birthday. Candace dashes through and ends up destroying everything at the picnic. She stops, still holding on to the wife of the couple. Hildegard recognizes her, and after noticing that there is a J birthmark on the woman's left arm, they all realize it's the long lost relative Annabelle, who starts to remember everyone. Hildegard thanks Candace for reuniting the family, and tells Jeremy not to let her go.
At Doofenshmirtz's place, Doofenshmirtz is excited because he thinks he can live there since the sale is off, but the bank worker informs him that since they weren't able to make the sale, they'll have to tear the building down to make way for a greeting card factory. Upon hearing this, Doofenshmirtz realizes that he has no choice but to call Charlene, taking the phone from Perry.

Errors[]
- At the beginning of the montage, Ferb is wearing super speed shoes. Afterwards, he isn't wearing them.
- The book Candace is reading has "Smorky the Giant Rabbit's Family Picnic" printed on the cover when she first shows the children. When it is shown again, "Family Picnic" isn't on the cover.
- When Phineas asks where Perry is, Ferb's belt is a darker shade of purple than his pants instead of the opposite.
- As Candace returns to the library again, Sally is seen in two places at the same time. In the second time her copy is shown, she is missing her head. At the same time, the third boy from the right, the second girl from the center, and fourth boy from the left have their necks drawn outside their shirts.
- As Candace stops running after destroying the Johnson's family picnic, her skirt is red.
- Candace's left leg comes outside her skirt before she is about to race in the three-legged race with Jeremy.
- When Candace says Sally can read the book, the audience disappears.
- Before it goes to slow motion in the song, Candace has two or three sets of eyes at the same time.
- When Candace first leans back in the chair, she has a leg coming out of her foot.
Continuity[]
- The pictures on the wall of Doofenshmirtz's place can be seen again ("Finding Mary McGuffin", "Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation!").
Allusions[]
- Run Lola Run - The episode's title parodies the title of the 1998 film. The song is also patterned after "Wish", which accompanies each of Lola's runs in the movie.
- Discovery Channel - The Uncovery Channel is a spoof of this channel.
- New York Public Library Main Branch - The lion statues outside the library are a reference to the ones in front of the New York Public Library on 5th Avenue and 42nd Street.
- Eadweard Muybridge - The motion-study photographs comparing Ferb and a cheetah are based on Muybridge's famous photo series made to establish whether all four of a horse's hooves left the ground at once.
- Poltergeist - One of Doofenshmirtz's attempts to ward off potential buyers of his apartment is telling one it was built on an Indian burial ground. This is the main cause of the hauntings of the house in this 1982 film.
