"Look at the cool vehicles we made for you for the Running of the Chinchillas! Baljeet has grown a new super street of bioengineered rutabaga!" — Phineas[src] |
The Rutabaga Vehicles are vehicles assembled by the gang to complement Candace's venture at the Running of the Chinchillas.
History[]
Candace is called by Phineas as she is getting ready for her role as the Princess for the Running of the Chinchillas. Wishing to enhance their sister's appearance at the event, the boys showcase a group of rutabaga-based vehicles created from genetically-altered root vegetables developed by Baljeet. Dismissing the idea of appearing in one, Candace leaves alongside Stacy, to the kids' surprise.
During the running, the pack of rodents is suddenly turned into giant beasts due to external interference, catching Candace and Stacy off-guard. Desperate, the two girls reach the front yard of the Flynn-Fletcher house, where the gang is preparing to cheer the Princess on. Out of options, everyone is forced to use the plant automobiles in hopes of escaping the horde, only for them to be ambushed consecutively, destroying the inventions one by one ("Der Kinderlumper").
Design[]
The Rutabaga Vehicles are four means of transport designed after rutabagas, having a purple, orange, and light orange color palette along with green leaves, reminiscent of the vegetable. Each vehicle takes the format of a toy or existant transportation; a spinning top, two feet, a double pogo stick, and a four-wheel automobile.
Mechanics[]
The Rutabaga Vehicles are bioengineered structures formed by splicing the genetic code of a rutabaga and a giant redwood, thus enlarging the former to the latter's size. Once the enormous root is cut, the mobility aspect of the final products is obtained by arranging the pieces into adequate positions.
Background Information[]
- In addition to a rutabaga and a giant redwood, Baljeet incremented the constructs with fennel at Buford's suggestion of a licorice scent.
- When the vehicles are shown to Candace, she ignores them by stating that she does not desire to appear on television looking like a weird individual. Perceiving the irony of her friend's looks, Stacy eyes her whilst bearing a serious expression. To that, Candace clarifies her intentions of not appearing more outlandishly than she already is.
- The kids' plan to cheer on Candace also involves signs and foam fingers following the color scheme of rutabaga. Phineas, Ferb, and Isabella are responsible for the signs, while Baljeet and Buford carry the hands, which the latter rips the finger off of.
- While being chased by the chinchilla creatures, Candace assures Stacy that she has gotten the fennel pedal all the way to the rutabaga medal in their vehicle. She subsequently affirms her awareness of the oddity of the sentence, which is a reference to the idiom "put the pedal to the medal", employed to designate an automobile at maximum speed.
- The riders of the vehicles are:
- Spinning: Phineas (demonstration); Phineas and Ferb (chase)
- Feet: Ferb (demonstration); Buford and Baljeet (chase)
- Pogo: Isabella (both occasions)
- Wheeled: Buford and Baljeet (demonstration); Candace and Stacy (chase)
- The order of the vehicles' destruction, from first to last, is feet, pogo, spinning, and wheeled. This indicates that the two-feet design is the slowest, and the car-like one is the fastest.
