Preserving the future by saving today
Over on another wiki, a discussion took place recently about saving some of the websites about a TV show that are begining to disappear. The show ended a few years ago and the company that owns it has started shutting down the websites related to the show. While that company probably has some sort of archives, department, there's no guarantee of it and no guarantee that the general public will ever be able to see the archives related to that show.
So now the race is on at that wiki to save and salvage as much information as they can before it disappears forever. Things like the theme park attractions, videos, articles and interviews, along with the websites that still remain.
Eventually, the same thing will happen to Phineas and Ferb. Whenever the show ends, which I hope will be many years from now, Disney will phase out attractions and websites in favor of whatever cartoon has become popular at the time. It's just the nature of the entertainment business to not provide much support for what has passed.
But even while a show is on air and popular, companies make updates to their websites to move content in and out. The Summer Vacation Summerizer website and the website for Across the 2nd Dimension are still around, but they're not featured any more.
We have a strong community of people who like this show and do a very good job of keeping this wiki up to date with the episodes. But we can do a lot to prevent us from having to scramble to find other information in the future if we add it now. For example, Disney Channel UK has added a massively multi-player online game called Agent Alert. I only found out because I was exploring their website looking for something else. It doesn't appear to be available on the US Disney Channel Website yet, but it is available on Disney Sverige (Disney Sweden website) and Dan and Swampy have a YouTube video introducing the game. What other Disney websites around the world have this game?
That's what we need. People who will go exploring on the Disney Channel websites around the world and create pages about the various features on those various websites. If you see an article or video about Phineas and Ferb or any of the cast and crew that help make the show, put in your web browser's bookmarks of favorites, print it out, save the page or take screenshots. Check out what's available through Toys R Us, Amazon, Walmart, eBay and other retails stores and add those to our Merchandise pages. Look through our Facebook and Twitter pages to see what's there.
Let's work now to preserve what we can before it becomes unavailable in the future.
Last chance for Subway promo
There is just about a week left for the Phineas and Ferb promo at Subway. Several of the restaurants have already sold out of the P&F sandwich bags and were having to use bags from previous promotions like Brave and Hotel Transylvania.
If you haven't got yours yet, you better hurry.
Odds 'n' Ends
- Breaking news from co-creator/executive producer Jeff "Swampy" Marsh via Twitter: A new soundtrack of our favorite show will be released later this year. We'll let you know more when the release comes closer.
- RRabbit42's merchandise reviews are on hold until he gets done moving. And sorry, folks, but this will have to be a very short issue since we don't have anything else prepared.
